Some Connecticut Home Design trends change because of external forces. We saw that during the covid lockdown when a home office and workspace became important to many of us. Guest bedrooms became offices, the family room became very important to us, and backyards became a destination. These all had an impact on the style of a new kitchen, living area, or refinished basement or attic. Now that we are a little more removed from the lockdowns, we are seeing definite design influences becoming more prevalent. Below are a few of the new and emerging style trends that we feel will become prevalent this year and perhaps in years to come.
Modern Rustic
This look embraces some elements of industrial trends such as live edge wood, wrought iron and unfinished metals. Clean lines, simple color pallets contrasted with untouched natural finishes may highlight a Modern Rustic room. Exposed beams, reclaimed and unfinished wood, polished cement, and the mixing of shapes and styles highlighted with colorful accent pieces give life to this eclectic style.
Functional Space 2.0
The last couple years people have created functional spaces in their home for exercise, entertainment, and comfort. Game rooms, gyms, home theaters, outdoor kitchens and saunas that were priced together the last couple years as the home space became so important are now ready for their upgrades. Porches become a four season room, basements become game rooms and theaters with a finished designers touch. Think of enhancing these spaces as a more mature vision of comfort.
Natural Light

Art Deco
A modernized art deco movement seems to be becoming more popular. A combination of industrial style with bold patterns and vibrant touches of color highlight an art deco styled room. Furniture, counters and wall materials that give contrasting shape to straight lines, or geometric patterns create just enough juxtaposition to create an interesting, yet comforting feeling in living spaces, bedrooms, or home offices. These elements may include large mirrors, patterned wallpaper, and gold accents.\
