I remember learning how to cook our family tomato sauce with my sister, mother and grandmother. We would stand around the stove talking about family history and how this tomato sauce has been passed down from generation to generation and how it was carried over from Italy by my grandmother. Just thinking about it now brings a smile to my face.
But my favorite memory is something I continue to do to this day: baking cookies in our old kitchen. I had a small metal chair with a wooden seat and back rest. My name was carved into the back rest with a drawing of a teddy bear. I would pull the chair up to the oven and I would love to watch the cookie dough rise. The smell coming from the oven would make my mouth water. I couldn’t wait until the cookies were done, so I could gobble them right up.
