Three Master Bathroom Remodeling Ideas

September 16, 2013by Remodeling Consultants

If you ask most people which area of their home they would most like to update the answers are either the kitchen or master bathroom.

And both of these areas typically require professional to get the results you’re looking for.

What’s more, both of these areas either appeal to or turn off potential home buyers, primarily because of the perceived (and sometimes very real) cost of “fixing them up.”

So remodeling your master bathroom is a great way to “update” your home.

Master bathroom remodeling tips

In the age old debate of “form or function” today the emphasis is on form – with an eye to proper function. The trend is to create a “home spa” with maximum use of space and high end finishes for a luxurious look and feel.

And why not?

Besides providing you with a good return on investment, create a space (oasis?) in your home that you can actually enjoy.

With that in mind, here are three tips for remodeling your master bathroom.

DESIGN

Whether you have a clear design plan for your bathroom (or not), there are some important considerations for you.

First, do you keep the existing layout… or not?

Typically it depends on how old your home is, and if the “function” of your bathroom works for you (or not). If you want to keep the existing footprint then design is a matter of aesthetic choices – vanity, fixtures, tile, paint color, etc.

However, if you want to rearrange the space – and possibly reclaim space, whether through an addition or by moving walls, etc. – then it’s best to get professional help.

This is important because there may be a need to reroute plumbing, and a professional design/build firm can help you maximize space with an eye toward interior design that is budget-friendly (and realistic) to build.

LAYOUT

This factor is probably one of the most important ones to “get right” since it affects the overall functionality of your bathroom, and will often dictate the overall design plan.

A good layout should address both your “needs” and “wants” while maximizing use of the existing (or newly enlarged) space. This should include a double vanity (or two separate sinks), storage options, tub and shower.

Is a double vanity a must?

You bet it is, especially for resale value down the road.

A master bathroom without two sinks simply is not up to “master bathroom” status. Likewise, you may want to rearrange elements in the room to amplify space — and then select lighting, colors, and surfaces to enhance the “openness” of your new bathroom.

You can discuss this with your bathroom remodeling contractor.

MAINTENANCE

This may seem like an odd design option, but let’s get real for a moment.

It’s one thing to make a beautiful space, and quite another to make a beautiful space that is functional, useable, and easy to clean up.

At the end of the day a bathroom is… well… a bathroom. And that means keeping it CLEAN is just as important as how it looks.

So how is this a design element?

For your bathroom remodeling result to require less maintenance, choose fixtures and surfaces that are resistant to mold, stains and even water marks. A professional design/build firm will be able to provide you with a range of design choices that are (and look) high end while remaining easy to clean.

And if you are looking for more eco-friendly products, they should be able to help you with that as well.

Getting the right bathroom features the first time will not only make cleaning less frequent but less frustrating as well.

By following these three keys you’re sure to get the bathroom of your dreams.
